The Tweed River Historical Society was formed at a Public Meeting called by Cr. C H Lundberg, President of the Tweed Shire Council, at the request of the Murwillumbah Rotary Club, on the 16th March 1959. More than 50 people attended the meeting. Mr R C Whittle was elected President and Doctor J K Marks was elected Vice President. The society changed its name to Murwillumbah Historical Society inc. in 2004.

Location:
The Museum is situated on the corner of Bent Street and Queensland Road, Murwillumbah the building is the original Tweed Shire Hall established on 8th July 1915.

Mission:
Murwillumbah Historical Society is an active non-profit body engaged in preserving, displaying, researching and publishing the history of the Tweed River Valley. The Society's mission is to encourage a study of Australia, particularly the Tweed River District and to preserve relevant historical.

Facilities:
Library, Guided Tours, Education Tours.

The Collection:
The history of the Tweed Valley comes alive through memorabillia; photographs; newspapers; documents and domestic farm equipment. Aboriginal artefacts & geographical specimens; civilian and military radio equipment; items of World War I & II and Robey Steam Engine on display. All holdings have been generously donated by the public, family members, businesses and other organisations.

Armed forces/ Domestic items and technology/ Genealogy/ Historic people/ Images/ Local history/ Militaria/ Rural life/ Clothing, fashion, costume, uniforms and accessories/ Communications/ Tools/ Film, sound or video/ Kitchen crockery and utensils.

Staff:
All members are volunteers and the Society is very active in the community, assisting and being assisted by a wide variety of community, corporate and government organisations as well as many individuals from the community.

Admission Charges:
Adults $2
Children under 6 yrs. no charge if accompanied by parents
Primary Children $1
Secondary School Children $1.50.
School Project Research - No Charge

Opening Hours:
10am-4pm, Every Wed, Frid and 4th Sunday of month or by appointment (excluding Public Holidays)

Research Fees:
Minimum Fee $12 plus photocopying

Membership Fees:
$7.50 per annum per person.

Monthly Meetings:
Held at the Museum 3rd Monday each Month, 7.30 pm. All members, new members and visitors welcome.
