Coolamon Tree


The Coolamon tree is the floral emblem of the Tweed Shire. The plants botanical name is Syzygium Moorei, Other common names are Watermelon tree (watermelon colored flowers grow on the branches) and the Durobby tree. It flowers in late spring and summer, and bears edible white fruit. The Coolamon is endemic to the Tweed Region. Specimens of the tree are in the gardens at Tweed Shire Council Civic Center, Murwillumbah. The plant is classified as rare and vulnerable. It is a member of the Myrtaceae Family.
